Glowing Bubble Lamp

Create your own glowing bubble lamp with simple household supplies. This fun, fizzy project is perfect for kids and adults alike—ideal for nighttime play or DIY sensory fun!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tall clear jar or bottle to show off bubbles
  • ¾ jar water use warm water for faster bubbles
  • enough to fill baby oil or cooking oil for floating effect
  • 1 tablespoon glow-in-the-dark beads or glow paint charged under light
  • 1-2 drops food coloring optional, for mood lighting
  • 1 tablet Alka-Seltzer or fizzy tablet break in half for best effect
  • 1 LED puck light optional, for extra glow

Method
 

  1. Pour water into your jar until it's about ¾ full. Use warm water if you want faster bubble movement.
  2. Add a drop or two of food coloring if desired, such as blue or purple for a galaxy effect.
  3. Slowly pour baby oil or cooking oil into the jar until it is nearly full. Allow the layers to settle.
  4. Add glow-in-the-dark beads or swirl in glow paint. Charge under a strong light source for a brighter glow.
  5. Break an Alka-Seltzer tablet in half and drop it into the jar. Enjoy the bubbling, glowing effect.
  6. Place the jar on an LED puck light and turn off the room lights for an enhanced glowing experience.

Notes

This glowing bubble lamp is a great DIY science activity. Use glow paint for a customizable look, and vary the food coloring for different moods. Supervise young children when using Alka-Seltzer tablets. Recharge glow elements under bright light as needed.
