A fun and spooky Halloween craft featuring a floating ghost inside a misty jar. Perfect for kids, party favors, or eerie décor!
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes
Servings: 1 ghost jar

Ingredients

  • 1 small mason jar 8 to 16 oz, clean and dry
  • 1 ball of white polymer clay or air-dry clay about golf ball size
  • 2 black beads or tiny black clay pieces for eyes
  • 1 piece fishing line or clear thread about 10 inches
  • 1 small handful poly-fill stuffing or cotton balls for fog effect
  • 1 small handful green moss or faux grass for base; available at dollar stores
  • 1 piece felt or fabric to cover jar lid
  • 1 glue gun or strong craft glue
  • 1 toothpick or skewer for poking hole in ghost
  • optional: glow-in-the-dark paint or clay for spooky effect

Method

  1. Roll white clay into a ball about the size of a golf ball, then flatten and shape it into a ruffled ghost shape.
  2. Form a dome in the center for the ghost’s head. Think 'Pac-Man ghost' shape.
  3. Add eyes using black beads or tiny black clay balls.
  4. Use a toothpick to poke a small hole at the top of the ghost’s head for the fishing line.
  5. If using polymer clay, bake the ghost per package instructions (typically 15 minutes at 275°F for ¼ inch thickness). Let it cool completely.
  6. Cut a felt circle to fit the lid of your jar. Glue on moss and poly-fill to create a foggy base.
  7. Thread fishing line through the hole in the ghost and tie a small bead inside to prevent slipping.
  8. Poke a hole in the center of the jar lid and pull the fishing line through, adjusting the ghost to float in the jar.
  9. Secure the fishing line by tying or taping it outside the lid.
  10. Place the ghost inside the jar and screw on the lid carefully.
  11. Cover the lid with fabric or felt, and tie twine or ribbon around it for decoration.
  12. Optional: Add a tag that says “Pet Ghost Inside” or “Do Not Open Until Midnight.”

Notes

For extra fun, use glow-in-the-dark clay or paint to make your ghost glow. Add spooky extras like tiny witch hats, pumpkins, or glittery stars. Great as Halloween gifts or party decorations!
