DIY Galaxy Jar

Create your own mesmerizing galaxy in a mason jar using cotton, paint, and a sprinkle of glitter. A fun and beautiful craft for kids, teens, and adults alike!
Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings: 1 jar

Ingredients

  • 1 clear mason jar any size
  • cotton balls enough to fill the jar
  • acrylic paint galaxy colors like black, purple, pink, blue, teal
  • water
  • glitter optional, for starry effect
  • 1 stick or skewer for mixing and arranging

Method

  1. Fill about 1/3 of the mason jar with water.
  2. Add a small amount of your first paint color (e.g. blue) and mix until fully blended.
  3. Pull apart a few cotton balls and stuff them into the jar, pushing them down until they soak up the colored water.
  4. Add a pinch of glitter if desired for a star-like sparkle.
  5. Pour another 1/3 of water into the jar and mix with a different paint color.
  6. Add more pulled-apart cotton balls into the jar, pushing them down into the new layer.
  7. Repeat the process with a third color (or more), layering additional paint colors and cotton until the jar is full.
  8. Seal the mason jar tightly with the lid.

Notes

Use complementary colors next to each other for a smooth gradient. Avoid overmixing the water once the cotton is added to preserve the layered effect. For a magical glow, add glow-in-the-dark paint.
