Clear Glue Suncatcher Craft

A colorful, low-mess, and eco-friendly kids' craft using clear glue and recycled plastic lids to create glowing window suncatchers.
Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 1 day
Servings: 1 suncatcher

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle clear school glue like Elmer’s Clear
  • a few drops food coloring or liquid watercolors
  • 1 clean plastic lid from yogurt, takeout containers, etc.
  • 1 toothpick or skewer for swirling colors
  • as needed wax paper or parchment paper for protecting the work surface
  • optional glitter, sequins, or beads for decoration
  • optional ribbon or string for hanging

Method

  1. Lay down parchment or wax paper to protect your table and make glue removal easy once dry.
  2. Fill the inside of your plastic lid with about ½ inch of clear glue. Avoid spreading it too thin or it might crack when drying.
  3. Add one or two drops of food coloring per color into the glue. Let kids experiment with placement.
  4. Use a toothpick or skewer to gently swirl the colors. Try creating spirals, hearts, or initials. Add glitter, beads, or sequins if desired.
  5. Place the lid on a flat, dry surface. Let it sit undisturbed for 24–72 hours until completely dry and clear.
  6. Gently peel the dried suncatcher from the lid. Trim any uneven edges with scissors.
  7. Punch a hole at the top and thread ribbon or string through. Hang it in a sunny window or use a suction cup hook.

Notes

Each suncatcher is unique, making it a perfect creative and educational project for kids. For best results, allow full drying time. Reuse plastic lids to keep it sustainable. Great as homemade gifts or window decorations!
