  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, cold

For the Egg Wash:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp milk

Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Dough

  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  • Add warm milk and mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  • Cover and let rest for 1 hour.

2️⃣ Prepare the Butter Block

  • Place the cold butter between two sheets of parchment paper.
  • Roll into a 6×6-inch square.
  • Refrigerate until firm.

3️⃣ Laminate the Dough

  • Roll out the dough into a 10×10-inch square.
  • Place the butter block in the center and fold the dough over it, sealing the edges.
  • Roll out into a rectangle and fold it into thirds.
  • Refrigerate for 1 hour.
  • Repeat the rolling and folding process 3 more times, chilling between each turn.

4️⃣ Shape the Croissants

  • Roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
  • Cut into triangles and roll tightly from the base to form croissants.
  • Place on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 2 hours.

5️⃣ Bake

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Brush croissants with egg wash.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
