Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp (7g) active dry yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup (240ml) warm milk
- 3 tbsp (45g) unsalted butter, softened
For the Butter Layer:
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, cold
For the Egg Wash:
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp milk
Instructions
1️⃣ Prepare the Dough
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Add warm milk and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead for about 10 minutes until smooth.
- Cover and let rest for 1 hour.
2️⃣ Prepare the Butter Block
- Place the cold butter between two sheets of parchment paper.
- Roll into a 6×6-inch square.
- Refrigerate until firm.
3️⃣ Laminate the Dough
- Roll out the dough into a 10×10-inch square.
- Place the butter block in the center and fold the dough over it, sealing the edges.
- Roll out into a rectangle and fold it into thirds.
- Refrigerate for 1 hour.
- Repeat the rolling and folding process 3 more times, chilling between each turn.
4️⃣ Shape the Croissants
- Roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut into triangles and roll tightly from the base to form croissants.
- Place on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 2 hours.
5️⃣ Bake
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush croissants with egg wash.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
