Description
A deliciously crispy and golden French toast made without eggs! Perfect for breakfast or brunch, this plant-based version is just as satisfying as the classic.
Ingredients
1 cup plant-based milk (oat, soy, or almond)
2 tbsp cornstarch (or arrowroot powder)
2 tbsp nutritional yeast (for an “eggy” flavor)
1 tbsp maple syrup (or agave)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp turmeric (for color, optional)
1 tbsp ground flaxseeds (or chia seeds)
4–6 slices thick bread (stale bread works best!)
1 tbsp vegan butter or coconut oil (for frying)
Instructions
1️⃣ In a shallow bowl, whisk together plant-based milk, cornstarch, nutritional yeast, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, turmeric, and ground flaxseeds. Let sit for 2 minutes to thicken.
2️⃣ Heat a pan over medium heat and add a little vegan butter or oil.
3️⃣ Dip each slice of bread into the mixture, coating both sides well.
4️⃣ Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
5️⃣ Serve warm with maple syrup, fresh fruits, and a sprinkle of powdered sugar. 🍓🍯
Notes
- Use thick-cut bread for the best texture.
- For extra crispiness, toast the bread lightly before dipping.
- Add a pinch of black salt (kala namak) for an extra eggy flavor.
