Ingredients
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
3 large eggs
200g Swiss dark chocolate (at least 60% cocoa), melted
½ cup milk
1 cup heavy cream
200g Swiss chocolate (milk or dark), finely chopped (for ganache)
1 tsp vanilla extract
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Optional: chocolate shards, candy decorations for chalet detailing
Instructions
-
Preheat and Prepare: Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and line two round cake pans with parchment paper.
-
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
-
Cream Butter and Sugar: In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
-
Add Chocolate: Stir in melted Swiss chocolate and vanilla extract until well combined.
-
Combine and Mix: Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk into the chocolate mixture until batter is smooth.
-
Bake: Divide batter between pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
-
Make Ganache: Heat heavy cream until simmering. Pour over chopped Swiss chocolate and let sit for 1 minute. Stir until smooth. Cool to room temp, then whip for a lighter texture.
-
Assemble Cake: Place one cake layer on a serving board, spread ganache over it, then top with the second layer.
-
Shape Chalet: Trim the cake edges with a serrated knife to create a triangular house shape.
-
Decorate: Cover entire cake with ganache. Dust with powdered sugar for snow, add chocolate shards as roof tiles, and decorate as desired.
Notes
For an extra festive touch, add small gingerbread men or candy trees around the base.
Swiss milk chocolate can be used for a milder, creamier flavor.
Chill the cake slightly before trimming and frosting for cleaner cuts and easier handling.
