Description

These halibut tacos are a fresh and flavorful twist on a classic favorite. Tender, marinated halibut is grilled or seared to perfection, then tucked into warm tortillas and topped with crisp veggies and a tangy, creamy white sauce. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or weekend gathering, these tacos are both nutritious and satisfying.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb fresh halibut fillets

1 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp lime juice

1 clove garlic, minced

1 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp chili powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

8 small corn or flour tortillas

1 cup shredded cabbage

1 ripe avocado, sliced

1/2 cup diced tomatoes

1/4 cup thinly sliced red onions

Fresh cilantro and lime wedges, for garnish

For the Creamy White Sauce:

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1/4 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt

2 tbsp lime juice

1 clove garlic, minced

1 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp paprika

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Marinate the Halibut: In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, lime juice, garlic, cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Add halibut fillets and coat evenly. Marinate for 30 minutes.

  • Cook the Halibut: Grill, bake, or pan-sear the halibut for 4–5 minutes per side, or until it flakes easily with a fork.

  • Make the White Sauce: Mix mayonnaise, sour cream, lime juice, garlic, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Adjust seasoning to taste.

  • Prepare the Tortillas: Warm tortillas in a skillet or microwave until soft and pliable.

  • Assemble the Tacos: Add cooked halibut to each tortilla, top with cabbage, avocado, tomatoes, and red onion.

  • Finish with Sauce: Drizzle creamy white sauce over each taco. Garnish with fresh cilantro and lime wedges.

Notes

  • Substitute halibut with cod or mahi-mahi if needed.

  • Add pickled jalapeños or mango salsa for a fun twist.

  • Make it gluten-free by using corn tortillas.

  • Use a cast iron skillet for a great sear.
