Description

Make the best chicken parm sandwich with this ultimate guide! Learn how to cook crispy chicken, choose the best cheese, and perfect your sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut in half

½ cup all-purpose flour

4 large eggs, whisked

1¼ cups Italian-style breadcrumbs

1teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1½ teaspoons dried basil

1 teaspoon kosher salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 cups canola oil (for frying)

6 Italian-style hoagie rolls

¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

½ teaspoon garlic salt

8 ounces mozzarella cheese, sliced

1½ cups marinara sauce

⅓ cup chopped fresh basil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dredging Station

    • In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs.
    • In a separate bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, dried basil, salt, pepper, and grated Parmesan cheese.
    • Place flour in a third shallow bowl.
  2. Dredge the Chicken

    • Slice the chicken breasts in half lengthwise to create cutlets.
    • Coat each cutlet in flour, then dip into the whisked eggs, followed by the breadcrumb mixture.
    • Repeat the egg and breadcrumb step to double-dredge for extra crispiness.
  3. Fry the Chicken

    • Heat canola oil in a large pan over medium-high heat.
    • Fry the cutlets for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F).
    • Remove and place on a wire rack.
  4. Melt the Cheese

    • Place the fried chicken cutlets on a baking sheet.
    • Top each with mozzarella slices and broil for 2-3 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Toast the Hoagie Rolls

    • Slice the hoagie rolls in half and brush with melted butter mixed with garlic salt.
    • Toast under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, until golden brown.
  6. Assemble the Sandwiches

    • Spoon marinara sauce onto each toasted roll.
    • Place the cheesy chicken cutlet on top.
    • Sprinkle with fresh chopped basil, close the sandwich, and serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, refrigerate the breaded chicken for 15 minutes before frying.
  • If you prefer a healthier version, bake the chicken at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Use fresh mozzarella for a richer, creamier taste.
